Description
Pre-Columbian, Pacific Coast, Costa Rica, Ca 400 to 800 CE. Lovely large olla with flaring rim, on the side are applied monkey heads and other strange zoomorphic beasties. Bowl decorated with added red highlights. 5-1/2" H by 7-1/2" W to widest point.
Provenance: Ex - Goodrich collection, Boulder, CO, acquired in the 1960's by a US Biologist studying ticks on the armpits of bats (now that is a field you don't often hear about!).
