OSTEN-SACKEN FABIAN GOTTLIEB VON: (1752-1837) Baltic-German Field Marshal and General of the Russian Army. He governed Paris during the city's brief occupation by the anti-French coalition in 1814. Rare D.S., as General, one page, folio, Voisins-le-Bretonneux, 22nd May 1814, in French. The document is an official acknowledgement of the amount due to the Mayor of the city of St. Cyr by the Imperial Russian Guard for the food given during a full month to the troops and the cavalry horses. Osten-Sacken states ´I undersign, as Commandant of the artillery cavalry of the Imperial Russian Guard, and certify to the Mayor of St. Cyr, that he has supplied to the mentioned artillery confined in this communal area......´. Underneath Osten-Sacken´s signature, the Mayor of the city writes the list of food rations, hay, straw and oat given and the amount due in French Francs and signs below. At the time of this letter France was occupied by the allies. Napoleon I had abdicated a month earlier in Fontainebleau. Baron Osten-Sacken, appointed Governor-General of Paris, commanded the Russian army which was in charge of maintaining the peace in Paris between April and June 1814.
