ARTHUR, DUKE OF CONNAUGHT: (1850-1942) British Military officer, son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Governor General of Canada 1911-16. A.L.S., Arthur, two pages, 8vo, Bagshot Park, Surrey, 10th January 1897, to [Frederick] Verney. The Duke confirms that both he and the Duchess would be very pleased to receive the Prince of Siam, although continues 'owing to a great many engagements this week I find it very difficult to settle a day & I therefore propose walking over to see you this afternoon to discuss the best way of receiving the Prince'. Together with Earl of Kimberley (1826-1902) British Politician, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs 1894-95. A.N.S., with his initial K, one page, 8vo, n.p., 11th July 1886, to an unidentified correspondent, in full, 'I should be glad to have a copy of this to send to Lord Dufferin'. Also including Earl of Clanwilliam (1795-1879) British Diplomat & Politician. A.L.S., Clanwilliam, one page, 4to, Regent Street, n.d., to a gentleman, evidently an artist, enquiring as to whether he has 'been enabled to finish the picture of the Duke of Wellington' and asking for it to be sent up to town before he returns.
