Description
Tennessee River Valley, North America, Mississippian, ca. 1250-1350 CE. The Native Americans introduced the Spanish and other Europeans to tobacco, one of a variety of plants the Indians smoked in pipes such as this elbow-shaped example which have been discovered buried within Mississippian mounds. This pipe is carved from a stunning charcoal grey stone with green/blue hues. It's both aesthetically pleasing and historically fascinating! 2-1/2" L.
