Description
Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Atlantic Watershed Region, ca. 800-1200 CE. Carved volcanic tuffa stone grinding table standing on tapered cylindrical tripod legs. The avian iconography so favored by virtually all Pre-Columbian peoples was associated with the celestial sun and moon. In the sky, birds were believed to act as messengers between humans and their deities. 18 1/4"L x 10 1/2"W x 6"H.
