The present gouache by Claus Friedrich Bergen (1885-1964) continues the tradition of Marine pieces. With the outbreak of World War II, Bergen devoted exclusively to marine painting, which made ??him the official war artist ever since the Battle of Jutland between Britain and the German Empire in 1916. The mainly blue-toned composition is characterized by a strikingly modern image conception, which manifests itself particularly in the airplane Ju 52, which has left rugged traces in the sky. In 1909, Bergen belonged to the founders of the Aero Club in Munich. In the 1930s, he also received contacts with the heads of the German aviation industry, whose premises were soon adorned with his paintings.

The sheet is signed lower right, ‘Claus Bergen’, matted and framed under glass. The condition of the work and frame is good, showing minor wear. The paper has been laid down on cardboard. The overall dimensions, including the frame, are 33 x 40 cm. The sheet size is 21 x 28.2 cm.
