Description
A rare Redfern day ensemble, circa 1923. the jacket labelled 'Redfern, Standard of Excellence' of khaki wool adorned with couched vermicular threads and silk rib tabs, large celluloid buttons to the waist; the matching dress with tie to waist, the bodice of boucle silk wool mix printed with foliate bands in autumnal shades, with open shoulders to the sleeves, bust 102cm, 40in (2)
Condition
Dress - hem has been raised approx 7cm but could be reversed quite easily. Faint perspiration stains at underarm but not immediately noticeable due to pinhead pattern on knitted silk, two tiny darns to rear skirt, a few small spot stains but not immediately noticeable. Jacket – exterior is generally good, lining is frayed and splitting at top of the shoulders, three watermarks to lining, the largest is 3x2cm. Exterior – front panels have 4 small brown stains centre front at waist level, the odd little brown mark to front and back but overall general appearance is clean and good
