Description
From the ancient Near East, Syria, Ca 2nd to 3rd centuries CE. A truly museum quality example! In limestone, back is unfinished indicating this was part of a shrine or stelae, face with incredibly life-like features with curled beard, short wavy hairstyle, painted details of eyes and eyebrows. 10" H, not including custom base. Height with base is 16-3/4".
Provenance: From the collection of William Froelich who is (NY, CA & The Caribbean), but said he has had it in New York since the mid 1970's having purchased the piece in Europe.
