Description
Napoleon Bonaparte Document Signed "Nap." One partially-printed page with integral blank, 8.5" x 13", in French, November 19, 1811. Napoleon, emperor of the French, here endorses a report "of the Central Committee of the Artillery concerning the question of ascertaining whether it is necessary to reduce the cannon draught of the 3rd Regiment to two horses as well as their ammunition wagon, in copying the Austrian model." The committee finds that "it is indispensable for the army to have 4 horses for the draughting of the artillery carts and that there would be no economization to have lighter wagons" based upon "the impossibility that two horses can haul a weight of 1500 pounds during a campaign while advancing towards an enemy." Light waterdamage has smudged some of the ink, though the text remains wholly legible. Napoleon's signature is unaffected.
