Description
IMPORTANT HISTORICAL ENGLISH POWDER HORN - 17th c. Commemorative for 1603 Coronation of King James I of England, richly scrimshawn with a narrative of events, depicting him at top as James VI of Scotland, Stewart clan; his sail south and his burial of Queen Elizabeth (holding shovel); his crowning as James I, House of Stuart, on 24 March, 1603, the first King of Great Britain. Notice the crude version of the Union Jack on the lower ship, adopted in 1606. Scattered throughout are figures symbolic of Biblical and mytholgical passages, including a uniform and elephant. Roughly 13" long. Good condition. On museum stand.
