Colonial America
c. 1775 Revolutionary War Era Iron “Tavern” Tankard
c. 1775, Revolutionary War Era Forged Iron Tavern Tankard with Attached Lid, Fine.
This Forged Iron Tankard measures 8" tall and 5" at base. Fine size on this period drinking vessel, quite similar to those illustrated in George Nuemann's "Early American Antique Country Furnishings". A great example of period craftsmanship and quality, handle has a carved design, and the lid is attached by a short chain. Pieces such as this were popular at period taverns and public houses, most often being filled with ales. Some pitting to the surface from age, still a wonderful example of an early American tavern tankard that would look lovely displayed in any Colonial period home or collection of materials from the Revolutionary War.
