Description
Netsuke, ivory. Japan, 18th cent.
A strongly expressive old work, the lion-dog shishi almost like a rock, dense, compact, a strong body. He is seated, the head is large with plenty of locks. In the open mouth is a sphere. The closely arranged eyes are scowling. The shishi is clutching a smooth ball with both front legs. The chord hole runs through it. Age-lines, patina, well-preserved.
HEIGHT 3,8 CM
