Description
DESCRIPTION: A very fine early 20th century bonnet top tall case clock with extensive inlays and decorations housing an eight day movement with tubular chimes. The case decoration combining decorative elements from French, English and American Neoclassical and Classical tastes. The French bracket feet support a mixed wood case that is heavily inlaid with floral, fan and bell-flower inlays up and down the exterior of the case and even inside (visible through the glazed door window). The waist with applied columns capped with brass caps. The bonnet with various inlays, terminating rosettes, etc. The eight day movement is behind a superbly inlaid brass and copper dial (the chapter ring being patinated copper or bronze) with a moon wheel behind. Unmarked but of high quality. PROVENANCE: By descent to the consignor from the Estate of Max Danzis, noted Jewish surgeon and one of the founders of Beth Israel Hospital of Newark n 1901. MEASUREMENTS: 22" x 15-3/4" x 98" high. CONDITION: Missing finials, case wear. Running.
