Description
Rare Pre-columbian Olmec spoon from Mexico, ca. 900-500 B.C. Carved from a very nice jade stone with a deity head centered over the main depression of the spoon, with the distinctive features of a were-jaguar with taut downward curving mouth baring toothless gums, the upper lip flattened against the flared nostrils and with pierced septum, the recessed eyes narrowed. The spoon seams to have been broken in antiquitiy and than made into a pendant. Very nice example!
