Description
Circa 1790. Attributed to John Shaw (1768-1816) of Annapolis, Maryland. Carved ribbon splat, and bowed backsplat (one with break). With tapered legs and "H" stretcher. Over upholstered seats in lemon damask. 38" x 22" x 22". Likely of the same original group made for John McPherson of “Prospect Hall” in Frederick County, Maryland. Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA) photo file S-9328 shows one chair (apparently from a set of four sold at Sloans & Kenyon in 2006) that shows a point-by-point match to this set of six.
