Walter Gamerith was fascinated by Lake Attersee in Austria, where he found beautiful motifs for his works and studies. The present painting reveals bright fields and meadows and the small village ‘Nußdorf’ in the distance. The work is characterized by bright colors and a soft and broad brushwork.

The painting is inscribed in pencil ‘Gamerith, Attersee. Nußdorf’ on the reverse. There are light traces of dirt at the lower edge. The image measures 50 x 70 cm, framed overall dimensions are 53 x 73 cm.



Walter Gamerith (1903-1949)

Walter Gamerith started his artistic training at the Academy of Arts in Vienna. He specialized in painting in 1926 and attended the class of Professor Karl Sterrer (1885-1972). He completed his studies in 1930 and set off for some travels through Europe. His first exhibition was held at the Vienna Künstlerhaus in 1930, which resulted in his admission as a member in 1939. Gamerith painted portraits and nudes, but his main artistic focus was landscape painting. Italian and Parisian motifs deeply influenced his work, as well as the beautiful areas around Lake Attersee. Examples of his artistic output can be found in the Albertina in Vienna. (cbo)
