Mario Puccini is regarded by many as the greatest of the Post-Macchiaioli artists. This small painting depicts in strong colors a rocky coast in Italy. The landscape paintings by the artist from the first decade of the 20th century show his special interest in color.
The painting is signed lower right ‘M. Puccini’. It is besides a small unevenness in the lower left corner in very good condition. The frame shows minimal traces of wear. The image measures 19 x 26.5 cm and the dimensions of the frame are 42.5 x 50.5 cm.
Mario Puccini (1869-1920)
A native of Leghorn, Mario Puccini studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence. He had to cancel his succeeding enrollment into the Scuola Libera del Nudo, because of a diagnosed mental illness he had to spent four years in a mental house in Siena. After his release, he travelled through the country and created landscape, naval, flower and still life paintings. He settled in Maremma in 1908 and later in Leghorn, where he constantly built up a career as an artist. First exhibition participations followed, e. g. at the Società d’incoraggiamento und der III Esposizione d’Arte di Livorno, and his circle of patrons steadily grew. (tmi)
