The multiple documenta and Venice Biennale participant Zoran Antonio Music (1909-2005) has depicted here an abstract Dalmatian landscape in his typical reduced form and color range. Executed in lively strokes and earthy browns and reds, the composition features various stones that are lined up in front of a flat background. After Zoran Music had been imprisoned from 1944 to 1945 in the concentration camp in Dachau, the exploration of the Dalmatian landscapes of his childhood in the 1950s meant a chance for a new beginning in his artistic oeuvre.



The sheet is signed and dated in pencil ‘Music 79’ lower right. It is mounted under a mat to the upper edge and framed under glass in a gilt wooden frame. The sheet is in very good condition with a little green pencil mark to the upper margin (outside the depiction). The frame shows major wear marks. The sheet dimensions are 24.8 x 30.5 cm, and the frame measures 46 x 50 cm

The Yugoslav-Italian artist Zoran Music is distinguished mainly by his outstanding talent as a draftsman. Major life events, such as his imprisonment in a concentration camp in Dachau, the artist has often come to terms within moving sketches.
