with pipe-backed blade of highly burnished steel formed with a quill point, the lower half finely etched on a gilt panel on both sides, decorated with scrollwork and foliage, involving both historical and contemporary Germanic trophies- of-war and the English cutler's signature "Sargant & Son Manufacturers to the hon.ble East India Company" on both sides, gilt-brass hilt cast in relief, including a pair of langets decorated with crossed sabres, the quillon terminal formed as a lion's head, the pommel en suite, and celluloid grip bound with silver wire, in its original iron scabbard
90.3 cm; 35½ in blade
The blade pre-dates the hilt by probably up to forty years and was presumably utilised from an existing family sword.
