Dated Oct. 15, 1862, No. 4117. This Keatinge & Ball, Columbia SC. product includes a portrait of Governor James M. Mason (1798-1871). Mason served in the U.S. Senate from 1847 until he was expelled in 1861 due to his support of the Confederacy. This state issue $50 and the Confederate T-17 $20 note share the Three Females vignette featuring a seated Ceres flanked by Commerce and Navigation.
