Majorelle's factory in Nancy was destroyed by a fire in 1916 and as a consequence all evidence of his work before the First World War along with it. His designs for the re-opened factory after the war used to relate to the Art Deco style. This desk is completely different from the floral designs of the Art Nouveau period. Instead of soft running shapes one will find two box-shaped elements with mortised plate. The asymmetric designs have become symmetrical, based on geometric forms. Nevertheless, it is obvious that this furniture is on the verge to the Art Deco, since it shows the typical features not yet in full expression. Its design is further characterized by artfully details like the fittings, the elaborate edge profiles or the unusual shape of the plate, which makes it an extraordinary furniture.

The desk bears the inserted signature brand 'Majorelle Nancy'. It is in very good condition with minor signs of age and wear. The dimensions are 75 x 194 x 83 cm.
