The present oil painting is a late work by the German painter Karl Albert von Baur. It depicts an impressionistic landscape of the area around the Bavarian town called Weißenburg. The sky is cloudy and renders the picture an atmospheric lighting.



The oil painting is in good condition considering its age. It is signed lower right ‘Baur’. The stretcher is verso fitted with a label, indicating the title and date ‘Bei Weißenburg i/B. 1907’. There are a number of marks with small losses of material, where the frame has rubbed. The paint surface has slightly chipped off lower right, leaving a skip of approximately 2.5 cm. Inspection under UV light reveals smaller areas of retouching in the sky. The frame shows light traces of age and use and measures 60 x 69.5 cm. The size of the stretcher is 41 x 51 cm. (cbo)
