Robert Crumb is one of the most important artists of the underground comix movement

In 1968 the album ‘Cheap Thrills’ by the US band Big Brother & The Holding Company, with the singer Janis Joplin was published. The Underground cartoonist Robert Crumb created a drawing that originally was intended for the back of the cover. However, Janis Joplin was so excited that she insisted on printing it on the front side.


The LP cover in offset printing is signed and dated in the center with black felt pen ‘R. Crumb ?04’. It is in good condition with only minor signs of age and use and is affixed to a mat at the reverse upper edges. The frame, too, is in good condition with slight signs of wear. The cover measures 31.5 x 31.5 cm. The framed dimensions are 58.5 x 58.5 cm.


Robert Crumb (b. 1943)

Robert Crumb was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He earned his livelihood first as an illustrator of greeting cards, besides, he published comics and drawings in underground newspapers. In a cartoon style he created satirical stories with offensive sexual and political nature. His work has been very popular in the 1960s, his most famous cartoon characters are Fritz the Cat and Mr. Natural. In the early 1990s Robert Crumb moved to France, where he still lives and works.
