2 page autograph letter, on both sides of a 8x5" sheet, addressed from the Anti-Slavery Office.
Oliver Johnson was a friend of abolitionist Lloyd Garrison and one of the founders of the New England Anti-Slavery Society in 1832. The letter discusses Miss Ellen Murray, a teacher of "Contrabands" on St. Helena Island, South Carolina. Ellen Murray and Laura M. Towne founded the Penn School on St. Helena Island in 1862.
