PAULINE PALMER (AMERICAN, 1865-1938) PORTRAIT OF A LADY IN THE BLUE DRESS. Oil on canvas, laid to board. Signed lower right and dated, 1929 Board: 42'' x 36''
Condition
6237 - This piece has been cut down and adhered to board behind, this is possibly from the artist. There is a heavy vanish layer covering the background and figure's face. The dress appears to be uncovered by varnish. Unclear if the varnish is from the painter or from restoration. There is some over painting to the top half of the left edge (section about 18" long x 3" deep), another section in the background pigment behind the figure's head, and a few other patches in the background. The repainted left edge has several .5" - approximately 1" long areas of pigment flaking an loss. There is another 1" diameter section of missing pigment to the right of the figure's shoulder in the green pigment. There is some scuffing and pigment loss to the edge of the canvas as well that appears to be from past framing.
