Description
Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, Ca 400 to 900 CE. Nice pair of Mayan "eccentric" flint creatures often found in Mayan cenotes throughout the Mayan lands. Painstakingly knapped from translucent flint and made as offerings and to show off the stone-working skills of the craftspeople. First is either an insect form or abstract standing human (depending on the orientation, the other represents a dance pose. Size: Each measures approximately 2-3/4".
Provenance: Ex-private AZ collection, collected between 1950 and 1970.
