Description
SS-TOTENKOPFSTANDARTE 1 OFFICER'S SWORD A most evocative rarity an SS-Totenkopfstandarte 1 Oberbayern officer's sword with scabbard. The ""dove head"" sword 38"" long overall bears the same design as the Heer model but with polished steel hand and cross guards. The cross guards bear integral metal tabs with SS runes on the front and an ""O"" (""Oberbayern"") on the reverse. The black grip bears a small crack at top and wire wrap bears a twist but it is in otherwise good shape. The slightly curved blade has slight surface corrosion and the tip has been bent but could be easily straightened. The reverse ricasso is marked by maker Alcoso with the trademark used from 1937-39 featuring scales with the firm’s initials “ACS”. This infamous regiment headed by Theodor Eicke was formed in September 1939 in Dachau with five battalions. 2 Sturmbannen occupied the city of Eger/Cheb in the Sudetenland prior to the Munich Settlement. It was then sent to Poland for police duties behind the lines of 10. Armee through October when it became the SS-Totenkopf-Rekruten-Standarte in late October until disbanded in the winter of 1940-41.
