Requiring Payment for Slaves Medical Services and Commission for their Sale in North Carolina
July 1847-Dated, Court Document Requiring Payment for Slaves Medical Services and Commission for their Actual Sale, Halifax County, North Carolina, Choice Very Fine.
Boldly written and easily readable Manuscript Document Signed as an official legal copy by “Wm(illiam) Holt,” 1 page, measuring 12.5” x 7.75” at July Court, 1847, Halifax County, North Carolina. Minor fold splits, overall quite vivid and having nice eye appeal, well written upon clean period wove paper. This court Document is pertaining to a case of Elizabeth Bailey & others against Jeffrey Fraynham & c. and reads, in part:

"...This cause came on to be further heard on the papers formerly read and the Report of Thomas bailey... whereof the court doth adjudge order and decree that the said Thomas Bailey do pay to Jeffrey Fraynham the sum of $20.55 paid by him to Richard Logand and John W. Price that do pay the account of $12 to F.J. Haywood for Medical Services to the slaves ... that he pay to Jeffrey P. Fraynham for $36.84 his commission for selling the slaves..."

Jeffrey Fraynham most likely was a Negro/Slave trader who was called upon to sell the stated Slaves for the Bailey family. He appears to have had to have routine medical work done before their actual sale. An intriguing, historic 1847 North Carolina Slavery related document.
