Encased Postage Stamps
Scarce Small AYER’S Type “AYER’S SARSAPARILLA”
EP-34, HB-29, S-15, Reed-AS03SM. Three Cents. AYER’S SARSAPARILLA, Small “AYER’S” Type. Choice About New.
Rated as Rarity-4 (31 to 40 Known) according to Fred Reed. This cataloger believes that this EP number is vastly more rare. This listed Small “AYER’S” type is extremely difficult to locate. This exceptional quality specimen is certainly among the finest known. Three specimens were sold in the Ford Collection Sale of 2004 of which none were graded above Choice Very Fine. This specimen as a deep red George Washington stamp is nicely centered having a few tiny scattered flyspecks and just a bit towards the top. The mica is clear and unbroken with a trivial faint natural surface lamination. The natural rich chestnut case shows signs of light cabinet friction and no real circulation wear.
