Flock of chicken in landscape

This small oil painting on mahogany panel comes from the hands of the Belgian painter and draftsman Frans van Leemputten (1850 Werchter - 1914 Antwerp). It depicts five chickens and a cock on a partly grazed meadow. The left background presents a landscape with mountains and water.

The painting is signed lower right "F. van Leemputten". It is in good condition with minor loss of color. The panel measures 17,5 x 23,8 cm, the framed dimensions are 42 x 47 cm.

Frans van Leemputten (1850-1914)

The Belgian painter and draftsman Frans van Leemputten was born in 1850 in Werchter and died in 1914 in Antwerp. In a realistic style of painting, he devoted himself mainly to the representations of landscapes, people and village views. He received his education at the Art Academy in Brussels under Paul Lauter. From 1891 he taught at the University of Antwerp. Works by Frans van Leemputten are held by famous museums, such as in Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Namur and Leuven.
