Description
One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Iron-Oxide Decoration, attributed to John Swann, Alexandria, VA origin, circa 1810, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied tab handles, decorated with a dipped brown iron-oxide slip around the upper portion of the vessel, in the manner of imported English stoneware. Several base chips. Chips to both handles. A small chip and minor nick to top of rim. 3 1/2” long smooth contact mark to one side. Rim slightly out-of-round.
