WIlliam Henry Banks Davis (British, 1833-1914). "Horses in Tall Coastal Grass", oil on canvas, signed lower right "H.W.B.Davis". Painting depicts four wild horses in the immediate foreground in a field of chest high sun baked grass, a male figure in the right middle ground farming the field, with a blue sea behind and green hills to the right at the edge of the sea. Framed approximately 38.5" x 60.5", unframed approximately 32" x 54".

Painting has been relined. Light scattered craquelure commensurate with age, however, no areas of lifting--paint layer stable. Under black light examination, in-painting on edges from rubbing on frame at earlier date as well as small area on left center in high grass to left of horse. No other signs of damage, loss or repair.
