The Nguni, Malawi and related South African groups are known for intricately carved scepters. This example bears some resemblance to Congolese sculptural traditions in its use of hand imagery. There is a warm, developed patina from handling.

The scepter is in good condition with old, stable cracks alongside the shaft. The piece measures 16 in. high.
