The present lithograph entitled ‘GOS 1’ is the work of Joan Ponç (1927-1984), and dates from 1976. A member of the group Dau al Set, Ponç‘s works feature fantastic images from the subconscious mind of the artist, who regarded art as an expression of the mysteries and secrets of the mind. The works of Joan Ponç, who considered himself more as a draftsman than a painter, are characterized by a love for details and precision.
The lithograph is number 67 of 99 signed and numbered copies. It is signed and dated ‘Ponç/76’ lower right and numbered ‘67/99’ lower left. The sheet is in good condition with some slight signs of wear. The dimensions are 77 x 55 cm.
Joan Ponç (1927-1984)
Born in Barcelona, the painter Joan Ponç painting with Ramón Rogent. In 1948, he became the head of the major artistic movement ‘Dau al Set’, whose members were Catalan artists and writers. ‘Dau al Set‘ (seven -sided dice) was linked to the pre-war tradition of surrealism in Barcelona. The group had an enormous impact on the development of modern art after the Second World War in Spain. The mid-1950s brought Ponç to Brazil, where he founded the groups l’Espai, and Taüll. Joan Ponç has exhibited in Barcelona, ??New York, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, Madrid, and in several other cities.
