Very good condition
This serigraph by Spanish artist Luís Gordillo (born 1934) dates from 1999. At this time the artist has turned more to abstraction. The colors seem to have a superior role with respect to the forms. The image is characterized by the intensity of the contrast between blue and red. In this work, Gordillo superimposed several layers of color, but avoided a three-dimensional effect of depth. In doing so, Gordillo has used compositional principles that come very close to the pop art.
This sheet is number 44 of 100 signed and numbered copies. It is signed lower right ‘Gordillo’, and numbered ‘44/100’ lower left. The reverse shows an inscription in Spanish. The work is in very good condition with only minimal wear. The sheet dimensions are 56 x 76 cm, the image measuring 56 x 76 cm.
Luís Gordillo (born 1934)
Born in Seville, artist Luís Gordillo (born 1934) studied at the local art academy. In the late 1950s, he went to Paris, where he came into contact with the avant-garde artists. Gordillo is considered one of the most influential proponents of abstract art in Spain. His works show the influence of the informel art of Tàpies, Wols, Dubuffet, and Fautrier. In the 1960s, he was inspired by the pop art. His main principles of composition are the repetition and the series. Gordillo regards the image as a constant process of reproduction, which should never be considered definitive. (cko)
