Item Details
Description
Rom, ca. 1st century or 2nd century CE. A realistically rendered sculpture of a right hand - even the nailbed of the index finger is delineated. At first glance this would appear to be a fragment; however, to our eyes it appears to be finished. So it may have been a votive for a cult statue of a god or goddess depicting a right hand, an offering within its grasp. Another possibility is that it was created to fit a larger figural sculpture. Size: 2-3/8" long.

Provenance: Ex-private Attal private collection, Austin, Texas, via family descent from great uncle, acquired during the 1st quarter of the 20th century.

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
