Commission document signed, as president, partially printed and accomplished in manuscript, (1) page, large folio, Washington, D.C., August 17,1848; being an elaborately engraved military appointment, naming First Lieutenant Lewis G. Arnold--Captain beginning August 20, 1847 for gallant conduct in the battles of Contreras and Churubrusco. Co-signed by Secretary of War "William L. Macy" Its official Embossed Seal is mostly intact and retains most of its original orangey backing at the upper left. Both signatures are in good order. “James K. Polk” measures 3 1/2 inches long and “William L. Macy” is intersected with a vertical fold and measures 3 inches. 19 1/2 x 15 inches. Condition: Good, areas of toning which correspond to the document when folded
