Choice Ten Cents “J. Gault” Plain Frame Merchant Type
EP-116, HB-133, S-97. Reed JG10. Ten Cents. J. GAULT. Plain Frame. Choice EF to About Uncirculated.
Rated as Rarity-1 (100+) according to Fred Reed. This is a very nice representative example of this “maker’s” merchant type and Ten Cents denomination. The rich deep green George Washington stamp is very well centered having a single speck upon the forehead. The mica is clear with just expected light surface mica craze. The case is a defect-free, extremely smooth and natural brass-chestnut in color. The reverse side stamped, “Pat. Aug. 12, 1862. J. Gault.” has about 90% of its original satiny gloss present, adding to the excellent eye appeal. An affordable, superior quality specimen.
