Carl Adolf Korthaus started his artistic training in Rome and continued his studies at the art academy in Munich, where he later established as a landscape painter. The present work depicts a winterly morning scene around the Bavarian countryside of Ramsau, where the Watzmann mountain raises up in the distance. The summits are illuminated by a beautiful play of light that is further enhanced through the impasto brushwork.



The painting is signed lower left ‘CARL A. KORTHAUS.‘. The canvas is verso titled and numbered ‘No. 13. Wintermorgen in der Ramsau’. The canvas is verso supported with a small piece of fabric upper center. The condition of the painting is good, despite of small traces of age and use. The size of the canvas is 73 x 93 cm. (cbo)
