Description
Culture: Pre-Columbian Classification: Mayan Ulua Valley , Honduras Gulf Region Date: 600 AD - 850 AD Size: 7 1/2 inches tall and 5 inches diameter Description: An extremely rare Mayan vase. Almost all Maya vases had stucco covering them and then repainted with pastel, almost chalk like colors. This original stucco is extremely fragile and on 99% of vases is missing. This is one of the only vases I have ever seen that has almost all of the original stucco and pastel paints. This is how the Maya tomb walls were painted. Showing three standing figures wearing large flowing headdresses with large feather drops, their hands in very elegant poses. Truly a beautiful and rare piece. Provenance: Stanley Harding Boggs ( Ohio , United States , 1910 - San Salvador , El Salvador , 1991 ) was an American archaeologist who worked and developed the archaeology in El Salvador , and who is known as the Father of Archaeology Salvadoran. By decent to Bernal Family Collection.
