We are proud to present this very interesting Pre 1921 Nippon Handled Covered Vegetable Tureen , bearing a very interesting Nippon Mark , gilded and coral beaded in a hanging grape theme. ***Weight : 2# 4 oz.*** Measurements: 9 x 7 x 4.75 *** ******** INTERESTING NIPPON MARK ***** Mark "Hand Painted" and "NIPPON" over and under the two characters "Bibi" . Originally thought to be the mark of a shop or trading company that commissioned pieces for sale, and got pieces from various kilns marked. The Nippon Mark would date sometime between 1891-1921. A Scarce stamp the E E Hand Painted Nippon, which was first noted around 1910, and has since become to be known as the BiBi mark. Legend has it that this transitional mark was associated with the Bibi family, that might have been importers of Nippon porcelain living in Palestine prior to WW I & till the 1920s & 1930s, but there is no absolute proof of the dates. If the mark has said MADE IN JAPAN that would date this to after 1921. I believe this is an early piece that was a custom order from a small kiln around 1914 the mark was used by an importer to Palestine making this a very interesting piece.
