Southwest Virginia earthenware glazed jar with extruded lug handles and a short rounded rim. Thick, uneven lead glazed surface with starch lines visible throughout. Base edge flares slightly out, unglazed bottom. Note - found in Southwest Virginia, this jar is similar to another example of similar glaze and form found in the Galax, VA area (between Carroll and Grayson County). The extruded handle placement, short rim height, small rim opening, and uneven glaze application with the appearance of starch lines indicate a potter from this region. 13"H. Mid 19th century.

Shallow chip to lower side wall, chips around base edge, evidence of blue paint residue in crevices.
