Roman Ribbed Amber Glass Vessel
Roman Ribbed Amber Glass Vessel
Item Details
Description
Late Rome, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE. An amber glass vessel of a petite form with a globular, ribbed body, shoulders that narrow to a short neck that in turn splays to a folded and hand-tooled rim. The ancient Romans were responsible for introducing a major new technique in glass production during the 1st century CE. Glassblowing allowed glass workers to produce vessels with considerably thinner walls, decreasing the amount of glass needed for each vessel. It was quicker than other techniques and allowed for refined detailing. A brilliant form with stunning golden hues! Size: 3-3/8\"H x 3-1/4\" in diameter.

Provenance: Ex-private New York, NY collection.

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
