Description
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, ca. 500 BCE to 100 CE. Very rare pottery chalice from the Gungala region. Shallow bowl sits atop a a flared foot, a human head in high relief on two sideswith coffee bean eyes, exaggerated nose with nose ring and long feathered ear decorations. Remains of original red/yellow pigment. Size: 4-3/4" in diameter x 3-3/4"H.
Provenance: Ex-Nick Poolos/Adeon Gallery, acquired before 1970.
