Description
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, perhaps Guangala, ca. 500 to 800 CE. A striking brownware pottery bowl of an avian form, delineated with a projecting head with a hooked beak, long crest, round eyes, and lots of character, applied long, graceful wings and wide tail. Surfaces detailed with incised striations and red and brown highlights. A beautiful piece from this ancient culture of Ecuador. Size: 7-5/8" x 4-1/8".
Provenance: Ex-private Denver, CO collection acquired at New York Auction House; ex-private Swiss collection formed in the 1990s.
