CHARLES V: (1500-1558) Holy Roman Emperor, and Charles I of Spain 1519-1556. L.S., Yo el Rey, one page, folio, Valladolid, 23rd May 1527, to Rodrio Celdan in Spanish. The Emperor refers to the payments due to the workers at the Castle of Conat and states `Monsignor Rodrigo Celdan, Court Clerk of our Council, as per your relationship with the inspector in charge of the works, and your knowledge regarding the situation and progress of works, and of a number of workers, and as requested by our Captain General Guillermo de Rocandolfo, the whole related to the castle of Conat, in the Puigcerdan area, close to the French boundary, and having certified that those workers did serve properly and according to instructions given, and that they received their salaries partially, we instruct you that, if all is as explained and if you have as you reported the certificates and documents related to such works and payments, you give your approval report to the Treasury Counselor with the amounts due to the workers so payments can be issued to them.´ Countersigned and with several cotemporary annotations at the foot.
