Description
Rome, ca. 100 CE. This is a heavy cast bronze applique that would have been attached to a Roman chariot; it has a pleasing shape with trefoil and diamond elements. Chariot racing was the most popular sport in Rome; private betting on the race was well known and people from the emperor to slaves engaged in it. Size: 2.4" W x 4" H (6.1 cm x 10.2 cm).
