The sheet is in very good condition. The lithograph is mounted to a support on four points on the reverse. It measures 65 x 51 cm.
Zao Wou-Ki (1921-2013)
Zao Wou-Ki began his artistic career with training in calligraphy. He decided to study painting at the University of Fine Arts in Hangzhou in 1935. After the completion of his studies, he was drawn to Paris, where he was able to visit the Grande Chaumière. He became a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts. The first single exhibition of his work in Europe took place in 1949 at the Galerie Creuze in Paris. He became a citizen of the French state in 1964. His fame increased with exhibitions in New York and other Western capitals, and also back home in Beijing during the second half of the sixties. Paris held two major retrospectives of his oeuvre in 1981 and in 2003. Zao Wou-Ki’s art is represented at major international art fairs. His works are in the possession of numerous international public collections such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Tate Gallery in London, and the Musées des Lorraine in France. A number of awards have honored his work.
