Description
Pre-Columbian, Southern Peru, Wari / Huari, ca. 600 to 800 CE. Though small in size, this terracotta cup is big in personality! Adorned with a dramatic visage modeled in low relief and painted in hues of black, white, and red. Given that the individual is decorated with a large ears pools, a striated headband as well as an intricately painted band of stylized geometrics that continues around the back and likely suggests a grander headdress, the person depicted was likely a leader of shaman. A marvelous example! Size: 3.25" W x 2.375" H (8.3 cm x 6 cm)
