Pre-Columbian, Nazca Culture, Peru, ca. 100 to 400 CE. This is a deep pottery bowl with a rounded body and a wide, flaring rim. It is painted with repeated trophy heads and geometric faces on its exterior; the interior is a solid painted brown. Trophy heads are a common artistic theme for the Nazca; a bowl like this one would most likely have been a grave good, filled with offerings. Size: 9.25" W x 4" H (23.5 cm x 10.2 cm).
